One of the fastest growing hobbies in the country is flying RC helicopters. These model aircraft come in a variety of sizes and styles as well as having a choice between electric and gasoline powered engines. With so many different models on the market, shopping for RC helicopter parts can be time consuming and confusing.

One of the toughest problems related to shopping for parts for an RC helicopter is the fact that several different models, from different manufacturers can carry the same name. Dragonfly is a good example of this problem with various sizes and designs carrying the name being produced by Syma, Walkera, GWS, and others. It is absolutely critical that one know the exact maker and model number of his dragonfly helicopter in order to locate and order the correct replacement parts.

The good news is that parts are readily available for most helicopter models. This is because it is inevitable that sooner or later one is going to crash and break something, rendering it unable to fly. Experience is not really an issue in this because there are just so many variables that can affect the flight of a helicopter in general and a model helicopter in particular. Many people choose to purchase and fly electric RC helicopters because they are often ready to fly straight out of the box and are less expensive than gas powered ones. In addition, there is no extra expense associated with purchasing fuel each time one desires to fly his model.

Parts for electric powered models are usually quite a bit less expensive than parts for gas powered ones. They are also easier to locate and purchase, because there are not as many things that can break or wear out as with gas powered models. Gas powered RC helicopters are normally larger than electric ones and capable of flying much higher and performing more aerobatic maneuvers. Crashing one is a disaster because it not only damages the body of the craft, but it could damage engine components that must be replaced. This is usually not cheap.

Fortunately, parts are available from many different sites on the internet as well as direct from the manufacturer. Because of the gaining popularity of this hobby and the inevitability of a crash, sooner or later, it is very possible that the outlet one normally uses for parts and supplies may be sold out of the specific part that is needed. Yet, another site may have several in stock and be ready to ship. Competition between websites helps to hold prices down, making it less costly to search for and find RC helicopter parts on the web. Finding the best price, though, could take a while and require one to view several different sites and search for the specific parts needed. Knowledge of the craft one has chosen to fly and having access to the exact model number and part number will prove most helpful. Still, one should be prepared to devote some time and effort to shopping for parts to ensure ordering the correct items and finding the best deals on them.

The Apache helicopter is one of the military's finest combat helicopters. It is extremely versatile, technologically advanced, and easy to deploy to anywhere in the world at need. It is not uncommon to have young people engage in hobbies where they try to emulate the military. This is one reason why many models are made to look like military machines. One such machine is the RC Apache helicopter.

There are several different versions of the RC Apache helicopter. They come from different manufacturers and are built in different sizes and configurations. They also vary in price from as little as $20 USD to well over $100. Some can be flown indoors safely while others must have a very large open area in which to operate. The one thing they all have in common is that they are built to look as closely as possible the same as a real Apache helicopter.

The RC Apache helicopter comes in a variety of sizes and price points.

One of the smallest models available is the Syma S012 mini Apache. This craft operates on three channels, allowing for smooth control of flight forward and back, sideways, and up and down. The unit is less than 5 inches long, meaning it can sit comfortably on the palm of the hand. This is also one of the least expensive models available at a price of around 20 USD. Syma also produces a slightly larger version with the model number S009. This and the S012 are both electric powered and small enough to be operated indoors. These are designed to be operated by novices and children who are just being introduced to the hobby of RC helicopter flying.

For experienced flyers who have plenty of room to operate outdoors such as in a park or in open fields, one can get a much larger model built to 1/6 scale that is operated with a gasoline engine and turbine. This unit is considerably more advanced, with a seven channel control that allows for complete 3-D flight and some rather impressive aerobatics. There are several other models both electric and gas powered between these two extremes they operate on different numbers of channels so that they can be chosen based on the experience of the operator. Some can be flown indoors, some would create a great deal of damage unless they are flown outdoors.

All are built to look like the AH64 Apache helicopter so that the flyer can visualize himself or herself operating the real thing on a combat mission somewhere in the world. There are several factors to take into consideration when shopping for an RC Apache helicopter. Foremost is the experience level of the intended operator. One should consider whether it will be flown inside or out as this will affect the choice of size drastically. One should have a good idea of approximately how much one wishes to spend obtaining an operating such a model. With all of these considerations in mind, one is prepared to go online as well as to the nearest hobby store to start looking at different models to choose the one that meets the acceptable criteria for all these considerations.

In the world of RC helicopters, certain manufacturers seem to stand out from the others. One such manufacturer is Walkera. This company produces many different models of high-quality radio controlled aircraft designed for users of all skill levels from beginner to expert. Therefore, choosing the right Walkera helicopter is mainly a function of how skilled the operator is and how much one wishes to spend.

Walkera helicopters can be divided into four basic groups based on how complicated their design is and what their flight capabilities are based on the number of channels used to control them. Simple two channel helicopters are ideal for beginners and are often built small enough and have designed features included that make them safe to operate indoors. These are usually ideal for those just beginning to fly RC helicopters. The next step up from the two channel controller is three channels. Three channel RC helicopters are capable of flying up and down, side to side, and forward or backward. Flight is generally maintained in a completely level position.

Four channel helicopters are capable of flight in any direction. They normally maintain a relatively level position during all maneuvers, but allow for more control from the user and offer capabilities beyond those of the less complicated varieties. Six channel helicopters are capable of complete three dimensional maneuvering and can mimic the movements of a actual helicopter in flight. In addition to the differences in the number of channels and flight capabilities that differ between models, one can also select a Walkera helicopter based on size. This company manufactures models that range from small enough to fit in the palm of the hand up to larger Chinook type models that can only be flown outdoors. There were several different ones whose size place them somewhere between.

For those who prefer more stability when flying their models, Walkera also builds fixed pitch helicopters which operate on fewer channels than the full 3-D versions, but it can be a great deal of fun and operate while one is learning the basic mechanics of flight. Walkera also manufactures a line of model helicopters that have coaxial main rotors with one blade setting a short distance above the other to provide better control and more stability while the helicopter is in flight.

Another advantage to buying a Walkera helicopter is the ready availability of spare parts and replacement parts. After all, one of the saddest but truest facts of dealing with airborne models is that sooner or later one is going to crash. It is to be hoped that damage is only minor because flying RC helicopters is not a cheap hobby. Still, it is good to know that in the event of a crash, one can easily gain access to replacement parts and repair the helicopter so that it will fly again. There are many manufacturers who produce RC helicopters. One of the standouts that is recognized for high-quality and wide selection is Walkera. Purchasing a Walkera helicopter can provide a hobbyist with a great deal of entertainment while at the same time providing peace of mind.

Many fliers start out as children with a small electric model that can be flown indoors and move up as their skill level increases. Once a person has mastered the most basic of controls, he/she is ready to move up to the true 3D ready models that must be flown outdoors. Many of these are powered by gasoline or nitro powered engines. When a person is ready to fly with the big boys (or girls!), he/she is ready to buy their first RC turbine helicopter.

These are the grandfathers of all RC helicopters. They are built to a scale as large as one sixth the size of the actual helicopter they are modeled after. When one powers up the engine, it sounds and smells just like the real thing, adding to the excitement of owning and operating one. Some manufacturers make a turbine conversion kit that allows one to change the engine out on an existing gas or nitro powered model and add the turbines and necessary extras that go with them. However, for most people, making the change from gas or nitro to turbine will require buying a whole new model.

The flight controls on most RC turbine helicopters are identical to those found on the gas powered ones. However, there are several internal differences and new components that are required to keep the turbine engine running that are not needed with the gas models. Before buying the first RC turbine helicopter, it is a good idea to be very well versed in the flying of 6 and 7 channel helicopters. These models are quite a bit more expensive than the ordinary gas powered ones and can be flown higher at faster speeds. This leads to the potential to do a great deal more damage if the helicopter is allowed to crash.

A fundamental understanding of how the turbines work to power the helicopter and some mechanical aptitude are necessary traits for someone buying his first turbine helicopter and attempting to fly it. After all, a great deal of money is being invested in this hobby by the time one is ready graduate to the turbine models. One of the largest draws in these models that make people want them is the fact that they are quite possibly the closest most will come to owning and flying their own plane or helicopter. While the experience is not the same, with the operator staying on the ground, It sounds, smells, and feels much like one is going into the air with his model when one has reached this level. Having an onboard camera can add to this feeling as the flier watches the images on a computer and makes changes in his flight path based on this bird's eye view. Buying the first RC turbine helicopter is a big step in the world of hobby flying. When one graduates to this level, he is at the top of the pyramid and can rightfully consider himself a master of RC helicopter flying.

Owning and flying RC helicopters is a hobby enjoyed by many people around the world. One way that many people have found to add to their enjoyment of this hobby is the use of an RC helicopter camera. Digital and film cameras have been created specifically for use with RC helicopters. These cameras can take still pictures and many have the capability of taking motion pictures.

In addition to hobbyists adding cameras to their helicopter models, other groups have found uses for having a camera mounted on their RC helicopter. Police forces are using specially designed RC helicopters with cameras mounted on board for collecting evidence at accident scenes and crime scenes from an aerial perspective. Motion picture companies have discovered that an RC helicopter camera can be used to capture unusual shots from different angles that would be impossible using standard cameras mounted on booms. They are also being used to take aerial shots in close proximity to buildings and other structures that would be impossible using full-sized aircraft.

The military uses their own version of RC helicopter with camera mounted as unmanned reconnaissance craft. These craft are able to be flown into suspected enemy territory and take photographs of activities being carried out without endangering US service people. Some individuals, such as private investigators, have found that an RC helicopter camera can provide them with visual evidence and surveillance that they would be unable to obtain by any other means. A small, electric powered helicopter can often be moved into a position to take photographs and catch individuals engaged in activities that should not be without the individual collecting the pictures having to endanger himself/herself.

Although care must be taken to avoid putting oneself in a position of being charged with endangering privacy, some people find it amusing to use to check up on their neighbors and see what is going on around the neighborhood. Children can often use craft equipped in this manner to see what their friends are doing and to stay in contact. There are undoubtedly many more uses for RC helicopter cameras that have been mentioned here. Their usefulness has been proven in a variety of situations where the unique aerial perspective can provide information that might be overlooked otherwise and in protecting human life by being able to get into positions and locations that a person could not.

Shopping for such cameras is not too difficult. There are many websites that offer different models of camera designed specifically to be mounted on an RC helicopter. There are also several helicopters that are designed for the sole purpose of carrying a camera and taking in-flight pictures. Some of these do not even look like helicopters in any respect other than the rotary blade. Helicopters that carry these cameras can be operated on electricity, battery power or be large gasoline or jet powered models. Depending on the quality of pictures needed they can have a variety of features built arms of the model itself designed to minimize all motion other than the intended direction of flight. Whether you're a hobbyist or a soldier, there's a RC helicopter camera designed and marketed specifically for you.
